THE TEAM 2020
SANJANA
I am a third-year PhD student at the Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy Department at the University of Groningen.

My research project is on epistemic injustices in asylum systems. I study the different reasons and ways in which asylum-seekers might be unfairly mistrusted in the refugee claims process and the philosophical questions that these raise.

When I am not working, I like to spend my time reading books, demonstrating my undying love for Netflix and eating more cake than strictly advisable.
MARTHA
I am a third-year PhD student at the University of Antwerp, where I am affiliated with the Centre for Ethics and the Centre for European Philosophy.
My dissertation poses the question of a philosophical conception of pride and its possible roles in living a good life. I am interested in moral psychology, philosophy of emotion, and generally questions about living well.
I host and produce the philosophical podcast Kluwen together with Lotte Spreeuwenberg, and enjoy writing public philosophy articles. Other than philosophy, I like to hang out with my dog Dennis, and endlessly rearrange my furniture.
EMMA
I am a first-year PhD student working at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Antwerp.
My research is part of the ERC-project NeuroEpigenEthics, which aims to investigate how dynamic concepts of human biology influence the ascription of responsibility. In my own project I investigate the possibility of a fair distribution of responsibilities for (epigenetic) health among various individual and collective agents.
In my spare time, I like to take a break from the rather sedentary life of an academic by participating in activism and kickboxing. I also enjoy going to the movies and hiking in the mountains.
KATELIJNE
I am a first-year PhD student at the Centre for Ethics at the University of Antwerp.
The central question with which I am concerned in my research is: ‘What is a woman?’ More specifically, I study how the meaning of the concept ‘woman’ gives rise to much debate on social ontology within feminist theory. In trying to make sense of the problem, I draw on Wittgenstein’s later philosophy and insights from ongoing debates in conceptual ethics.
I am a fulltime music addict and lead a not so secret double life as a singer, occasional choir conductor and hesitant multi-instrumentalist.
AMBER
I’m a second year PhD student at the University of Antwerp, where I’m a member of the Centre for Ethics.
My research focuses on implicit bias and moral responsibility, more specifically I am interested in what the psychological findings on implicit bias reveal about our capacity for self-knowledge, what can be expected from us to better ourselves and where the limits of moral responsibility lie.
In my spare time I like to hang out/go out with friends or do some DIY renovations in my house.
GEORGIE
I am a third year PhD candidate at Tilburg University where I study personality as a philosophical and psychological concept. I also have interests in philosophy of medicine, philosophy of mind, and moral psychology.
Outside of work I spend my time playing multiple instruments very badly, learning different styles of dance and martial arts, reading books I should have outgrown, and hugging my grumpy rescue cat.
MAGDALINI
I am a second year PhD-student at the Centre for Philosophical Psychology at the University of Antwerp.
In my research I aim to offer a representational account of pain as a perceptual modality with an affective component. Based on its function, I also aim to identify and characterize cases of malfunctioning.
In my free time, I like to play fetch with my cat or travel for concerts.
